Stretching: Pocket Book Edition, by Bob Anderson

Stretching has been selling steadily for over 30 years. The genius in the book is the use of clear line drawings to which readers relate (as opposed to photos).

There are two main sections: "The Stretches," with bulleted instructions for each stretch; and "The Routines," for everyday activities, for the office, for sports, and for specific body parts, with page number references to the instructions for each stretch. The main part of the book is identical to the original. Stretching is a gentle, simple activity that can be done by anyone, anywhere, at any time.

1.Pocket Stretching Book is a perfect size for my gym bag. I put it in a zip lock bag to keep it nice.
2.My brother is a Chiropractor and he gave me the larger version over twenty years ago.
3.I used it so much, that years later I had to take it to an office supply store to have them hole punch and add a plastic binder down the spine of the book. I actually liked it better because it laid out flat.
4.My Physical Therapist was very impressed with this book and its size.

Good, at times lurid, but not comprehensive
By Steven F. Olivo
The editors of this book have put together a list of 100 undoubtedly evil people (mostly men, but including poisoner Catherine de Medici and real-life vampiress Elizabeth Bathory as well as one or two other women)distilled down to 2-3-page summaries covering their lives, their actions, and usually a little bit about their motivations, though frequently these are facile one-sentence comments such as "infidels cannot be allowed to live." Most notable are the frequently lurid descriptions of the actions of these people, some of which, such as the uncensored reprinting of mocking (and graphic)letters murderer Albert Fish wrote to the parents of two children he had killed, cooked, and eaten, are not for the easily sickened. Though body count and continuing influence are important factors, the editors also use a somewhat nebulous "glee factor" and the depravity of a subject's action when determining rank.
The usual suspects among this world's tyrants and democides top the list (Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, and so on, as well as terrorist bin Laden and a group listing for the tyrannical Taliban), but after about 30 it quickly shifts to a list of mass murderers, including the well-known (Dahmer, Bundy, Manson, Gacy, Berkowitz), the not-as-well-known (satanist Richard Ramirez, white-hater Mark Essex), and the unknown (The Boston Strangler, Jack the Ripper). Places on the list also go to Columbine shooters Harris and Klebold and a general listing for computer virus writers.
Some villains of the medieval period rank surprisingly highly, Genghis Khan, Attila, and Ivan the Terrible all appear among the top 10. Though Khan, who conquered most of Asia in a very brutal manner, probably deserves to be there, and perhaps Ivan, who set a pattern for repressive government in Russia also does, but Attila, brutal as he was, was largely unrealized possibility, for after his defeat at Chalons the odds of his dominating Europe vanished if ever they were there, and I question the high ranking of such an ephemeral person. Likewise highly rated is Basil the Bulgar-slayer, who blinded 14,000 captured prisoners, but was no more a tyrant than most to sit on the throne in Constantinople. One crime, it appears, can sometimes vault one very high on the list, though it may not have tremendous influence. Enver Pasha and Talat Pasha, who engineered the genocide of the Armenians in the Turkish Empire, share a high spot on the list, certainly merited, although none of the sultans appear.
That leads to the question of whether the editors of this book cast their nets wide enough, and turned too quickly to lurid and perhaps topical 20th century murderers to fill out the list. Though no one can deny what the Columbine shooters did was both insane and evil, they were essentially bullied kids who hit back much too hard. No one can also deny that virus writers cause many problems, but almost never death. Yet both are mentioned. Castro, however, is not, nor are Nicolae Ceacescu, Enver Hoxha, nor almost any of the other Cold War dictators, many of whom were even worse to their own people than any Communist ruler save Hitler and Mao. Chile's Pinochet makes the list, but not his counterpart in Argentina Juan Peron, of the days of helicopters departing full over the seas and returning empty and other "disappearances." Saddam Hussein makes the list, but not his opponent Ayatollah Khomeini, who sent Iranian teenagers in human-wave attacks against Iraqi tanks and bombers. Mithridates of Pontus, who murdered 100,000 Romans, and Francisco Lopez, who led the nation of Paraguay into a triple-front war in the 1800s that reduced his own population from 1,400,000 to 229,000 and killed 1,000,000 Argentinians, Brazilians, and Uruguayans, all in the name of megalomania, get no mention at all. Likewise, terrorists Yasser Arafat, Jomo Kenyatta, who led the vicious Mau Mau movement in Kenya, and Roger Casement, father of the IRA, get no mention at all.
In sum, although the book paints a very good picture of 100 evil people, it is by no means complete or comprehensive.

The banality of writing a cheap book about evil
By pnotley@hotmail.com
There are many things wrong with this book as a list, and as a discussion of the problem of evil. But consider just one thing. This is a collection of malefactors that Islamic fanatics would approve of. Of course Osama Bin Laden makes number 8, and so do the Taliban and Saddam Hussein. But that's to be expected from Americans. But how could they not admire a book in which 46 of the world's most evil people come from the United States? When you add people from Britain, Australia and Canada you get a solid majority from the Anglo-American world. And so many of their crimes involve sexual perversity and anonymous murder, which clearly trumps religious bigotry and systematic injustice in the author's scale of evils. Basically this is a book that starts off with the most infamous tyrants (Hitler is number one), and after the first twenty and thirty places, goes on to discuss mass murderers and serial killers. The four Presidential assassins are included, and the book rounds out with the Marquis De Sade and virus writers. Aside from inadvertently giving aid to comfort to America's enemies by suggesting it has, if not a monopoly of evil, controlling interest in it, the book is superficial and unpleasant to read. The book combines a shallow moralism with a lurid interest in their subject's atrocities, a sort of pornography for Republicans. The moral questions are not really addressed. For a start many of the book's subjects are patently insane, even by the strict and pro-Prosecutor guidelines of Anglo-American law. Is it useful to describe as evil someone who does not have the capacity for moral choice, or which is constrained by severe psychological problems? Sure, says the author. It doesn't matter that Martin Bryant, the Tasmanian mass murderer had an IQ of 66 or that Caligula may have been suffering from schizophrenia or epilepsy.
Reading the earlier entries one wondered how many of the charges against Genghis Khan, Attila the Hun, Ivan IV (the Terrible) or Vlad III (the Impaler, who makes the top 10) are actually true or are just propaganda. Good question, since Vlad III's status rests more on the idea that he was the inspiration for Dracula. The suspicion increases when the entry on Hussein starts by blaming him for the anthrax mailings in the fall of 2001, something which he clearly was not responsible for. The historical analysis is not very deep. Salvador Allende was not a Communist. There is no good reason for having Eichmann appear before Himmler, his superior, nor did he have to face 15 charges at Nuremberg. The book overstates the severity and intensity of the persecution of Christians as a result of Nero, while at the time ignoring his destruction of Jerusalem. Likewise Tojo's treatment of American POWs gets more condemnation than the way the treated the rest of Asia. Mussolini's worst acts, his African atrocities, get little space. And there is much that is missing. Neither Khomenei or the Shah appear; the African slave trade is completely ignored, and so is apartheid. Idi Amin Dada appears, but the perpetrators of the Rwandan genocide are missed. The Belgian Rulers who may have caused the deaths of 15 million Congolese in their occupation of the country are forgotten. The whole bloody subjugation of the Western hemisphere goes unmentioned, so there is nothing on how Pizarro managed to destroy and enslave an entire civilization out of sheer greed. The Thirty Years War, the Crusades, the conquest of Ireland, the suppression of the Dutch Revolt are all ignored. If Stalin's and Mao's famines are to be condemned what about the Irish potato famine or the (several) Bengal famines? Mobuto, Suharto, D'Aubisson, Stroessener and the rulers of Guatemala get no mention. Nor, needless to say, do Hiroshima and Nagasaki. If Garfield's assasin deserves an entry, shouldn't Gandhi's? (Or for that matter the assassins of Indira or Rajiv Gandhi?) Charles Guiteau was just a disgruntled office seeker and Garfield a mediocre politician. The assassins of Gandhi, Luxembourg, Jaures, Rabin, King, Barthou, Bloch, Milk and Moscone were fascists or something close to it. And what about the judicial murder of Thomas More or Margaret Pole? McKinley's conquest of the Philippines involved many atrocities and the death of one in seven Filipinos. Shouldn't he rank higher than his killer?

biased
By Jefferson Davis
After reading the first half-dozen entries and skimming the rest, the summaries are not as concise as they could be and some entries are questionable. The most obvious one:

John Wilkes Booth makes the list of most evil (number 94), but Linconln should be there instead. Lincoln is primarily responsible for the deaths of 620,000 people because he could have simply allowed the Confederate states to have their independence. Instead, he launched a military invasion, allowed the demolition of cities which caused starvation and disease. He imprisoned thousands of people simply because they were sympathetic to the Confederacy, leaving them jailed indefinitely, without access to attorneys or a listing of charges against them. He shut down many newspapers and confisticated telegraph companies. He refused to meet with Confederate delegations during the war, which could have resulted in a compromise. The South was justified in seeking relief from the unfair tax burden and their decreasing representation in the senate and house. The constitution and other laws effectively permitted secession. Lincoln was not really anti-slavery and slavery was dying out throughout the Americas anyway (it ended in Brazil, in 1888).

Also, referring to the Civil War battle of Antietam, 22,000 was not the number killed. It was the number of casualties (dead, wounded and missing).

Review
Real food that real people eat. In this book, Abbas Raza presents authentic, home-style food for the novice or experienced cook. His spicing is perfectly balanced. With easy and delicious recipes for family and friends, this cookbook is a jewel! -- Jenna Holst, author of Stews

As a professional chef who's owned a catering company for 30 years, and who's worked with Indian cookbook authors on a number of occasions, I was really impressed by the breadth of the flavor profiles in Abbas Raza's recipes. -- Lynn Buono, Chief Culinary Officer of Feast Your Eyes Catering

Abbas Raza is best known to most people as the founder and editor of 3 Quarks Daily, but I believe he should be equally well known for his culinary classics and innovations. In his remote Northern Italian kitchen, he adapts local ingredients to dazzling new uses, serving forth a legendary South Asian cuisine to his many visitors. This is one of those cookbooks of which you can say: Simply follow the recipes. How much skill is involved? None you do not already have. The recipes are written to guarantee that. -- Elatia Harris, personal chef and cooking teacher, Lucy's Mom Cuisine

From the Author
During my first weeks in college in America, I made desperate phone calls to my mother begging for recipes and even just wanting to know how to cook plain rice, as you might also have done. Alas, while my mother was an excellent cook, she was no expert in imparting cooking instruction over the phone or even in writing. Trying to follow her directions, I nearly killed myself, not to mention many of my friends. But I did eventually learn to cook well with the help of family, friends, and much more effective in-person lessons from my mother when she would come to visit. It is easier these days to Google recipes or search on YouTube but for an inexperienced cook it can still be quite confusing and intimidating. So I've decided to collect all the information that you will need to start cooking Pakistani and North Indian food in one place, and I have very carefully written down exact recipes that are easy to follow.

From the Back Cover
"This cookbook certainly fulfills its promise of the evocation of home but there is also a delectable unpredictability to some of the recipes. For example, I had never had anything like the Sweet and Sour Green Beans and decided to try and cook this dish. It turned out fantastic! There are many other unexpected and delicious surprises in the book. Also, the photography is amazing!" -- Sonia Ahsan
"The recipes are clear without being simplistic and Abbas Raza's tone is friendly and encouraging without condescension. Many books allow you to reconstruct the flavors of South Asia at the cost of days spent grinding spices and muttering incantations in dead languages; others are quick and convenient and bland. This one hits the delightful spot in-between, with quick spice-filled flavors that would satisfy any grandmother from the old country. And they're so easy to cook! I tested several recipes at a dinner party, juggling drunk guests, over-excited dogs and petulant ex-lovers, and they all turned out superbly. We ate so much we had to cancel our post-dinner dancing plans." -- Rishidev Chaudhuri
"Abbas Raza's excellent book includes a wide array of meat, vegetable and rice preparations from South Asia. The easy to make dishes as also the slightly more complex ones have been meticulously measured and tested. The recipes are clear, concise and as close to being foolproof as is possible for a written cooking guide. A great gift for young students living on their own for the first time and also older cooks who have never before attempted to make Pakistani or North Indian food on their own." -- Ruchira Paul
"Outstanding! We cooked from S. Abbas Raza's book and we never have had such dishes before. They were truly delectable." -- Moin and Nafees Rahman
"The recipes from Abbas Raza's cookbook look amazing and I was happy to find out that they taste just as good as they look. They are easy to understand and follow, even for a novice cook. He provides very detailed instructions that make it hard to mess up the dish. I really appreciated the substitutions he suggested such as a can of tomatoes instead of fresh tomatoes because I don't always have those on hand. The food was quite spicy but in a good, comforting way. Thank you for sharing these wonderful recipes with everyone Abbas!" -- Blaire Grant

the fact is that this is an excellent cookbook. That's it
By morgan j meis
Okay, the fact is that this is an excellent cookbook. That's it. I just made the vegetable potato dish, I forget the name at the moment. But it came out perfectly by following the very simple directions. Why aren't all cookbooks this clear and lucid? No one knows. Most people are too stupid to be simple, I guess. You will actually use this cookbook, unlike all the other cookbooks sitting around your house. Brilliant.

This is *real* south-Asian food, and it's sublime.
By Amazon Customer
I've always loved food from this region, but hadn't had much success in cooking it, until now. I've cooked a number of dishes from this cookbook so far, and have been uniformly thrilled with the results.

The key to its success is down to two factors. First, the clarity of the instructions. It's very hard to go wrong if you pay attention. And second, the author doesn't compromise on ingredients. If a particular spice is needed, he'll tell you, and it is completely worth hunting it down. If you're living in the West, you mightn't find it in your local supermarket, but you will find it at an Indian grocer or online, and you must. It makes the difference between the one-dimensional flavours of what passes for south-Asian food in many cookbooks, and the deep, rich and complex tastes of the real thing.

Heartily recommended.

Some Cookbooks Are Frighteningly Lucid, and Those Are The Ones To Buy
By Elatia Harris
Have you read some North Indian recipes and thought: I cannot possibly follow these instructions, no matter how badly I want to eat this dish. That's a basic and very disappointing experience in the life of a cook at any level of skill, and with regard to this repertoire, it never has to happen to you again.

The recipes of Abbas Raza are hugely lucid, and they assume you are wholly unfamiliar with North Indian food prep. As Abbas himself once was -- he had grown up eating it in Karachi, but could not, as a homesick graduate student, cook a bit of it. It took him many years to achieve his current brilliance as a cook. He has high standards and he met them. You will benefit right away.

The recipes I've tried have been marvelous additions to my repertoire, and confidence inspiring too. If you want to dazzle your friends with the taste of the Mughal Empire, you can do that now. You can have only made hot dogs before, but these recipes will see you through. Buy the book -- start living in a bigger world!

Synoptic-Dynamic Meteorology and Weather Analysis and Forecasting: A Tribute to Fred Sanders (Meteorological Monographs)From American Me

Key scientific research by authors including Kerry Emanuel, Robert Burpee, Edwin Kessler, and Louis Uccellini illustrates the evolution of the fields of synoptic meteorology, weather analysis, forecasting, and climatology. It is published in honor of the late Fred Sanders, emeritus professor of meteorology at MIT, whose influence was vast: he coined the term “bomb” for explosively intensifying winter storms; he established the roles of low-level horizontal confluence and convergence in frontal collapse; and he invented the field of oceanic mesometeorology. This monograph is both an essential tool for educating future weather researchers and a testament to Sanders’s legacy of teaching.

Once Broken Faith (October Daye), by Seanan McGuire

New York Times-bestselling October Daye series • Hugo Award-winning author Seanan McGuire • "Top of my urban-paranormal series list!" —Felicia Day

Includes a brand-new map and original bonus novella!

Politics have never been October “Toby” Daye’s strong suit. When she traveled to the Kingdom of Silences to prevent them from going to war with her home, the Kingdom of the Mists, she wasn’t expecting to return with a cure for elf-shot and a whole new set of political headaches.

Now the events she unwittingly set in motion could change the balance of modern Faerie forever, and she has been ordered to appear before a historic convocation of monarchs, hosted by Queen Windermere in the Mists and overseen by the High King and Queen themselves.

Naturally, things have barely gotten underway when the first dead body shows up. As the only changeling in attendance, Toby is already the target of suspicion and hostility. Now she needs to find a killer before they can strike again—and with the doors locked to keep the guilty from escaping, no one is safe.

As danger draws ever closer to her allies and the people she loves best, Toby will have to race against time to prevent the total political destabilization of the West Coast and to get the convocation back on track…and if she fails, the cure for elf-shot may be buried forever, along with the victims she was too slow to save.

Because there are worse fates than sleeping for a hundred years.

Enjoyable new entry in series
By Frinn
10 books into the series Seanan McGuire continues to make interesting and compelling books.

If you haven't read this series, read it. If you have read others, don't stop now. It is still good.

Things of note inside this book:
* A master class level example of how to keep romantic tension after a couple have gotten together
* A bonus novella that may be better than the main book!
* Action
* Blood
* Magic
* Blood!
* Mystery
* Foreshadowing and Doom
* Did I already say Blood?

Not a bad book, just not as engaging as others in series.
By David G
This is borderline 4 star book. But compared to rest of series I had to drop thsi to three stars. The author is starting to lose freshness. I would suggest she either move on to new series and come back later to thsi one or try and find a conclusion to this series- perhaps with wedding or return of Oberon...

Not a bad book, just not as engaging as others in series.Do read the series in order to undersatnd the charecters and what is going on. Trying not to be a spoiler but the use of old magic prior to elf shot and the legal nitpicking on interpreting Oberon's law should not be surprise or new loophole to immortal purebloods. These letter of the law loopholes should have been addressed centuries ago in any logical sequence.

Phew, tension galore that had me galloping through the story
By Kathy Davie
Tenth in the October Daye urban fantasy series and revolving around Toby, a half-fae, half-human knight errant in Faerie. The story is set in San Francisco. It's been six weeks since she and her friends overthrew the government in A Red Rose Chain , 9.

My Take
I love it! McGuire starts off with a slumber party for the youngsters: Quentin, Raj (who is interested in Chelsea), Karen, Dean (he and Quentin are dating) with Dean being introduced to the Disney version of The Little Mermaid. Oops, whatever will Mom say, lol!

Thank god for May, *snicker*! She will be essential in keeping Toby on the straight and narrow of etiquette. Too bad she can't do much for the investigation into all those assassinations!

It's all politics and backstabbing with nobles against the elf-shot cure. Others who despise changelings. I loved Toby's reaction to Verona and Kabos, lol. Threats from a dreamwalking Winterrose. And Toby's past exploits are fanning the flames against her. The emotional turmoil is worsened with Tybalt holding himself aloof from Toby during the conclave. It's a matter of image and influence. One that Toby hates.

It's the selfishness and politics that really drive me nuts. How very similar are our own politicians and fae rulers with some so narrowminded and others broader…I do hate to say that those against the cure do make some good points, just as those for it also make good points.

Some of the issues have Dianda rising up and making a good environmental point, while Patrick is even better with his comment about the kingdoms not able to afford to go to war. Oh, yeah!!

There is a lot of back history with part of me moaning at having to retread old ground, and another part of me grateful for reminders. So take this into consideration.

And McGuire has, again, left me panting for more, as I skidded, slid, and flipped pages as fast as I could to discover what happens next!

The Story
It should have been a time of rejoicing when Toby returns from the Kingdom of Silences with a cure for elf-shot. But political headaches rise up in the conclave with fears that the balance of Faerie will change.

It doesn't help when the first dead body appears…with Toby hovering him. Already feared as a kingbreaker, no one trusts Sir Toby Daye, but she must find the killer before they strike again.

Failure would condemn those she loves most, for there are worse fates than sleeping for a hundred years.

The Characters
Sir October "Toby" Daye (Karen calls her "Auntie Birdie") is a knight errant — Knight of Lost Words — and hero of the realm, yes, literally, half-human and half-Dóchas Sidhe, a bloodworker. She works as a private investigator to pay the bills. Her mother, Amandine, is a Firstborn daughter of Oberon; her father was human. Quentin Sollys is Toby's squire…and the heir to the throne of the High King of the Westlands. May Daye is Toby's former Fetch who is in a relationship with Jazz; both are Toby's housemates. Cagney and Lacey are Toby's cats while Spike is her rose goblin.

The Court of Dreaming Cats is…
…ruled by Tybalt, Toby's fiancé. Raj is Tybalt's nephew and heir. Anne had been the wife Tybalt buried. I think Opal and Gabriel are Alazne's parents.

Each type of fae owe loyalty to the First who created them: Tuatha de Dannan answer to Oberon; the Tylwyth Teg answer to Maeve; and, the Daoine Sidhe answer to Titania.

The Luidaeg, Antigone, is the eldest Firstborn of Maeve's. She is the sea-witch, mother of the Roane, and Toby's aunt. It sounds like Dobrinya was one of the Luidaeg's brothers. Acacia and Amandine are her sisters. Eira Rosynhwyr, a.k.a., Evening Winterrose, is a Firstborn daughter of Titania and is the one who created elf-shot.

The Westlands is…
…ruled by High King Aethlin Sollys and his queen, Maida; they're Quentin's parents and live in Toronto.

Northern California has been…
…ruled for the last ten months by the reluctant Arden Windermere, the Tuatha de Dannan Queen in the Mists, from her knowe in Muir Woods. Nolan is Arden's sleeping younger brother. King Gilad had been their father. Madden is Cu Sidhe and Arden's seneschal. Usually. Lowri is Arden's captain of the guard and her stand-in seneschal. Professor Walther Davies teaches chemistry at UC-Berkeley and created the cure for elf-shot. Marlis is Walther's sister from Silences; their aunt and uncle are Siwan and Holger Yates, the rightful Queen and King of Silences.

The Duchy of Shadowed Hills is…
…ruled by Sylvester Torquill, Toby's estranged Daoine Sidhe liege lord who is a vassal under Arden. Luna Torquill is Sylvester's duchess and a Blodynbryd; she hates Toby. Rayseline is Luna and Sylvester's sleeping daughter. Connor O'Dell, a Selkie, had been Raysel's ex-husband, Toby's lover, and is now a night-haunt. Sir Etienne is a Tuatha de Dannan knight in Sylvester's service whose changeling daughter, Chelsea, now lives with him ( Ashes of Honor , 6). Simon Torquill is Sylvester's brother and Toby's stepfather. September had been their sister. Sir Grianne is a Candela with Merry Dancers. Jin is an Ellyllon and an excellent healer.

Dean Lorden is the Count of Goldengreen; Marcia is his majordomo. Dianda Lorden is the Duchess of Saltmist and the Undersea Kingdom of Leucothea. She is a Merrow (mermaid) married to Duke Patrick; they're Dean's parents. Peter is their other son, a Merrow, who is Dianda's heir. Li Qin, a Shyti Shuai, a luck fae, is the interim Duchess of Dreamer's Glass. April O'Leary, a cyber-Dryad and Li Qin's daughter, is the Countess of Tamed Lightning; Elliot, a Bannick, is her seneschal. Shade is the Queen of Cats in Berkeley. Elizabeth Ryan leads the local Selkie colony.

Theron and Chrysanthe, a pair of Golden Hinds, are the King and Queen upon the Golden Shore, an agrarian kingdom. King Antonio Robertson, a Candela, reigns in Angels; Bucer O'Malley is a Glastig and part of the Angels retinue. Other kingdoms include Evergreen (Washington and part of Vancouver); Kingdom of Prisms which takes in Alaska; Painted Skies is Nevada; Highmountain encompasses Colorado and is ruled by Daoine Sidhe, Kabos and Verona with a Barrow Wight, Minna, as their handmaiden; Copper is Arizona with a Centaur King; a Hamadryad baroness from Helen's Hand; Duke Islay of Staggered Clouds, a Sluagh Sidhe, is representing the Oversky Kingdom of Frozen Winds; and, Starfall is Idaho ruled by Duke Michel, a Daoine Sidhe.

Stacy and Mitch Brown (a quarterblooded and a halfblooded changeling) are more of Toby's friends, and their five children include Cassandra; Karen, their middle fifteen-year-old daughter who is an oneiromancer, able to move, manipulate, and communicate through dreams; and, Andrew and Jessie (these last three had been kidnapped four years ago in An Artificial Night , 3).

Jolgeir is the King of Cats in Portland. Cliff Marks had been Toby's human husband ( Rosemary and Rue , 1); Gillian had been Toby's daughter. King Rhys had been the ruler of the Kingdom of Silences ( A Red Rose Chain ).

Fetches are night-haunts who live vicariously through the dead they eat. Dare had been a gang member under Devin, a modern-day Fagin, a.k.a., Egil. Home had been their changeling domain. Elf-shot kills changelings and puts pureblooded fae to sleep for one hundred years. The Shadow Roads are traveled by the Cait Sidhe. Folletti are sky-fae who use hardened wind for swords.

The Cover and Title
The cover has a yellow and purple background of redwood trees in Muir Woods, a lined path, and October in black leather jacket, low-slung jeans, and a riveted, silver buckled belt. Her long hair is streaming down her back, and Toby is holding an ornate dagger in her right hand. The author's name is in white at the top. The title is in purple with a broken white outline at the bottom.

I'm not sure what inspired the title. It could well be Toby's anger with Sylvester, for Once Broken Faith, it's hard to trust again.

Growth Exercise
By Mom of Four
I cannot say that my daughter was happy about this book, but it has challenged her. I know it has caused her to grow as a flute player.

Some nice ideas and exercises
By Jimbo
This booklet provides some nice ideas and exercises on how to perform double and triple tonguing. 243 exercises is overkill - the ideas could probably be condensed into a dozen examples. Plenty of sight reading for the player who is interested in such things.

Five Stars

Recommended by my daughter's private teacher. Best for motivated intermediate students.
